DATABASE SEARCHING TIPS

Do not ask a question.

For example, if my search is , "What are the risks of participating in an extreme sport?"

Enter your terms broad to narrow : extreme sports (broad) then risks (narrow).

Start by :

  1.   Using  the IMPORTANT WORDS (extreme sports) from your search question.

  2.   choose from the database suggested populated lists if your terms appear as you are entering the search term.

  3. COMBINE TERMS : BROAD (extreme sports )  to NARROW (danger, risks, hazards, etc.).

To get more hits, think of like terms you can use.(a thesaurus is helpful for alternate terms)

For the word risk , you may want to use:

         danger           hazard        exposure        psychology

accidents       athletes          adrenaline rush        thrill seekers

See the search tip pages below for each database.
